Oklahoma City Philharmonic Premieres New Leshnoff Commemorative Work

Jonathan Leshnoff’s new work for symphony and chorus, Of Thee I Sing, had its world premiere by the Oklahoma City Philharmonic with Music Director Alexander Mickelthwaite on February 1st, 2020. The work was commissioned by the Oklahoma City Philharmonic (its first ever commission) together with the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing.

Um Recital Aired on WFMT for Dame Myra Hess Concerts

On January 29, violinist Danbi Um performed a recital for the esteemed Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts at the Chicago Cultural Center. Joined by pianist Kuang-Hao Huang, Um’s recital consisted of works by Korngold, Bloch, Saint-Saëns, and Ravel and was aired and livestreamed on Chicago classical station WFMT.

Sussmann & Neubauer Tour Taiwan & China

Violinist Arnaud Sussmann and violist Paul Neubauer returned this week from a tour throughout China and Taiwan with Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. With performances in Taipei, Kaohsiung, and Nanjing, Sussmann and Neubauer were featured together with CMS Co-Artistic Directors Wu Han and David Finckel and violinist Paul Huang (who performed with Dinin Arts’ Danbi Um last month in Brevard). The November 30 Taipei performance featured Paul Neubauer giving the Taiwan Premiere of Shostakovich’s Impromptu for Viola and Piano, which was written in 1931.

Fung Premieres New Esmail Piano Trio in Seattle

As part of Town Hall Seattle’s Town Music series, pianist David Fung collaborated with Artistic Director and cellist Joshua Roman and violinist Kristin Lee on November 25 to perform three piano trios. In addition to trios by Mendelssohn and Ravel, the musicians gave the world premiere of a new piano trio by Indian-American composer Reena Esmail.

Leshnoff Recording nominated for a GRAMMY

This spring’s Naxos all-Leshnoff's release was nominated for a 2020 GRAMMY for Best Classical Compendium. The recording, featuring the Nashville Symphony and Music Director Giancarlo Guerrero, includes pLeshnoff’s Starburst, Guitar Concerto with Jason Vieaux, and NSO-commissioned Symphony No. 4, “Heichalos.”

Um Returns to Brevard

On November 3, the Brevard Philharmonic featured violinists Danbi Um and Paul Huang on a unique program featuring violin duos for orchestra. The frequently collaborating violinists, who have played in Brevard before, brought the crowd to its feet in their performance of Moszkowski’s Suite for Two Violins and Sarasate’s Navarra. The pair’s next performance together will be at Wolf Trap on Valentine’s Day.

Amernet Storms the Northeast

The Amernet String Quartet concludes the 2018-19 season with a series of performances in the Tri-State Area. Following a performances at Chestnut Hill Concerts with cellist Ronald Thomas and violist Vivek Kamath on August 9, the quartet returned to Bargemusic on the Brooklyn waters for a program of works by Beethoven, Dvořák, and Daniel Asia. The quartet will be back in New York on August 19 for a performance at Maverick Concerts in Woodstock in a performance including the quartet’s transcription of Beethoven’s “Pathetique” Sonata. Shadrin's Final Building Bridges

Jonathan Leshnoff's Symphony No. 4, "Heichalos," which the Nashville Symphony premiered in March 2018, had its subsequent performance in Nashville May 31-June 3, 2019. The final performance took place during the annual League of American Orchestras conference, introducing the powerful work to a vast array of industry leaders. The concert followed by a CD signing with the new all-Leshnoff release by Naxos, accompanied by one of the Violins of Hope.

The collection will feature Leshnoff’s popular concert opener Starburst, his Guitar Concerto featuring Jason Vieaux, and the world premiere recording o his Symphony No. 4 “Heichalos” featuring the Violins of Hope, restored instruments played by Jewish musicians during the Holocaust.
